Special Education

Welcome to the Elba Central School District Special Education Department

The Special Education Department is responsible for the development, coordination, and supervision of programs and services for students with disabilities. At Elba Central School, we are committed to creating a respectful, safe, and engaging learning environment that empowers and inspires all students to become lifelong learners who are challenged to succeed. The Special Education Department supports this mission by providing a continuum of services and programs designed to meet the unique strengths and needs of each student.

We recognize that every child is an individual with unique abilities, interests, and learning styles. Our goal is to provide high-quality, individualized supports that address each student's academic, social-emotional, communication, physical, and management needs while promoting participation in the least restrictive environment. Through collaboration with families, educators, related service providers, and community partners, we work together to help every student reach their fullest potential.

We value strong partnerships with parents and guardians and believe that open communication and collaboration are essential to student success. We encourage families to be active participants throughout the special education process and are committed to providing the information and support needed to help their children thrive.

Child Find

The Elba Central School District participates in Child Find, an ongoing process to identify, locate, and evaluate children who may have disabilities and who may be eligible for special education services. Child Find applies to children from birth through age 21 who reside within the district.

If you suspect that your child may have a disability or is experiencing significant difficulties with learning, communication, behavior, social-emotional development, or physical development, we encourage you to contact the Special Education Department. Parents, guardians, teachers, healthcare providers, and community agencies may refer a child for evaluation. Early identification and intervention are important in helping children receive the supports they need to be successful.

If you have questions about special education services or would like more information about the referral process, please contact the Elba Central School District Special Education Department. We look forward to partnering with you to support your child's educational journey.
